This platinum Pt100 Class A sensor assembled with phosphor-copper wire is a combination chosen for its proven performance under extreme thermal and mechanical stress.

Cryogenic temperature monitoring poses unique challenges. Rapid temperature swings, mechanical shock, condensation, frost buildup, and thermal contraction can easily damage or destabilize conventional sensor assemblies. This design overcomes these challenges through robust materials and precision assembly.

The selected Pt100 sensor has a highly predictable and linear resistance-temperature characteristic, even at -196 °C. And Phosphor-copper wire maintains excellent conductivity and mechanical stability at cryogenic temperatures, ensuring the sensor’s resistance signal is transmitted accurately without drift or brittleness.

Repeated immersion into liquid nitrogen stresses ordinary wires and solder joints. The Phosphor-copper wire can provide high fatigue resistance, strong resistance to cracking in ultra-low temperatures and excellent flexibility and tensile strength which help maintain reliable electrical continuity after hundreds of freeze-thaw cycles. The 3rd advantage is the Reduced Signal Noise and Improved Accuracy. Cryogenic environments can introduce electrical noise through static, condensation, or rapid thermal changes.

Phosphor-copper wiring offers low resistivity for stable signal transmission, better shielding reliability and good solderability and strong joint integrity.

Combined with a Class A Pt100, the system achieves ±0.2 °C cryogenic accuracy which is good for long-term reliability for critical applications such as:

  • Biobanking and cryogenic tissue storage
  • Liquid nitrogen freezers
  • Vaccine, cell, or genetic sample repositories
  • Cryo-transport systems
  • Industrial cryogenic processes

This structure minimizes failure modes like micro-fracture of wires, sensor drift, and poor signal repeatability.

Whether you’re managing long-term cryogenic storage or maintaining regulatory-compliant laboratory environments, STN’s Pt100 + phosphor-copper wire cryogenic design delivers precision, durability, and peace of mind.
